"Our country has made a promise to care for those who have defended and protected our nation. Our leaders must keep that promise by funding the essential programs that provide health care and support services for veterans."

Peter believes we have an obligation to take care of the veterans who have served our country. He believes the Republican Congress and President Bush have an "abysmal record" that must be reversed- cuts to health benefits, increases in fees, and a neglect to fund the VA for an increase in needed services as a result of the war in Iraq. That is why Peter supports a GI Bill for the 21st Century to assure all our veterans a treated with the respect they deserve for serving our country.

Peter also believes we must elevate the National Guard to have a place among the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This would recognize the increasing role the National Guard plays nationally and internationally in keep our nation safe. It would also give the Guard greater ability to address the needs of Guard soldiers, their families, and the communities they serve.
